Prior to considering you for dental veneers, your dentist will give you a full and extensive oral exam to determine your current oral health. After the exam, your dentist will discuss the options for the shape and color of the veneers. When your dentist creates your veneers, they will take into consideration the measurements of your face, your facial symmetry and skin tone.
In some cases, during your first appointment for veneers, we will buff your teeth gently in order to remove one or two millimeters of the enamel to prepare the surfaces for the new veneers. This tooth reduction will provide a flat surface for the veneers that will ensure that they are in line with the teeth that are surrounding them. Once the veneers are completed, they will be sent back to your dentist.
Your dentist may use local anesthetic in order to ensure that there is no discomfort felt during the placement of the veneers. The temporary set of veneers will be removed and the dentist will check to see how the permanent set fits on your teeth. You can inspect the fit, color and shape before they set is attached. If any adjustments are necessary you need to let your dentist know, since the veneers are not able to be altered once they have been placed.
